Baycross Christian Family Foundation has launched its Pack-a-Sack program for the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County at the Roy McBean club location. The Roy McBean club provides a small hot meal to each child Monday through Friday. For many of these children, it is the last meal that they receive for the night. It is estimated that 140 children who regularly attend the club may experience chronic hunger over the weekends. To alleviate this hunger, Baycross Christian Family Foundation and community outreach volunteers provide bags of various, non-perishable foods that each child can pack into their backpacks and take home on Friday afternoons to eat throughout the weekend.
Every item of food that is purchased or donated will go into the hands of young children to ensure that they do not experience chronic hunger during weekends.
Food Contributions to the Pack-a-Sack program can be made at the Roy McBean Club. 1790 21st Street Sarasota, FL 34234. For more information about the food collection drive or about volunteering for the Pack-A-Sack program, please contact Shahla Simpler at (941) 706-2690.
